Yamaha has filed patents for the new YZF-R9 moniker in the Indian market. This leads us to believe that we could soon see the Yamaha R9 on the Indian streets. Yamaha already registered the R9 nameplate in European and Australian markets. However, the brand has not yet revealed the R9 motorcycle in the international market. We can expect that the launch of the motorcycle is quite close. Nevertheless, there are no official statements about the motorcycle, and hence there’s no confirmed news on the pricing.
What is the Yamaha YZF-09?
The Yamaha R9 has always been in the news ever since Yamaha launched the R7 in the international market. Yamaha could possibly use the MT-09 platform for the new R9 motorcycle. Speculation is that the Yamaha’s R9 could use the 890cc engine from the MT-09. The motor is capable of producing 119 HP of power and 93 Nm of torque. The brand is likely to offer high-specification components on the Yamaha R9 similar to those on the top-spec MT-09 SP variant. Mechanical equipment may include fully adjustable suspension, six-axis IMU, slide control feature etc.
The design is likely to be similar to Yamaha’s new ‘R’ models similar to YZF-R7 and YZF-R15 V4 introduced this year. However, there are no spy shots or design renderings available that could prove this theory. Trademarking also does not necessarily confirm that R9 will arrive in India. Yamaha might decide not to bring in the motorcycle, and that won’t be surprising at all. However, looking at the popularity of the MT-09, Yamaha could introduce a supersport based on the bike in the international market. Yamaha recently also unveiled the 2022 Yamaha XSR900 neo-retro motorcycle. This was in much demand ever since MT-09 was launched into the market. But sadly, this motorcycle, i.e. the 2022 Yamaha XSR900, won’t make it to the Indian roads any time soon.
