Triumph Recalls Trident 660 For Side Stand Problem

Triumph Motorcycles is recalling certain units of the 2022 Triumph Trident 660 in the North American market. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2022 Triumph Trident 660 may have an issue with the side stand. This may cause the motorcycle to fall and cause injury to the rider or road users. The unstable stand may bend when the motorcycle is parked. Reports also suggest that Triumph India will recall the Trident 660 in the Indian market pertaining to the issue. But the exact number of bikes for the recall has not been revealed yet. It is important to note that no injuries, damage or death has been reported pertaining to this recall.

2022 Triumph Trident 660 – The Problem

Triumph Motorcycle America has announced that 314 units of the Trident 660 could be affected. Out of this 1% of motorcycles are suspected of the defect. Reports also reveal that the recall population was based upon a review of factory records. NHTSA report suggests that the use of incorrect raw material specifications could be responsible for the recall part. The incorrect material specification used on the side stand may cause it to bend under the weight of the motorcycle. This may lead to an angle of lean beyond its designed angle of lean. Furthermore, the lean angle will gradually increase over time with the side stand. The faulty component is (STRUCTURE:MOTORCYCLE: KICKSTAND/CENTER STAND) manufactured by Fujin Corporation PVT LTD., in Faridabad, India.

2022 Triumph Trident 660 – The Remedy

Triumph dealerships in the USA will replace the side stand, free of charge to the customer. The NHTSA recall acknowledgement also corroborates that owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by February 24, 2022. Customers can also contact NHTSA Hotline or go to the official website for further queries. Furthermore, Triumph owners could also contact Triumph customer service to inquire about the recall. The brand also revealed that the remedy component is manufactured to correct material specifications and Triumph has corrected the recall condition in production in May 2021.
