Kawasaki & Yamaha Jointly Developing Hydrogen-Powered Engine

Kawasaki has revealed that the brand has partnered with Yamaha for research and development in hydrogen-powered engines. The Japanese brand’s are currently togather developing an engine that uses carbon-neutral fuel. Other Japanese automakers including Toyota, Subaru, and Mazda are also aiming to use hydrogen-powered engines for their four-wheeler applications. Kawasaki Industries plans to focus on hydrogen as the next-gen energy source for the entire supply chain since the last decade.

Hydrogen Power Engines in Two Wheelers

Kawasaki has been developing technologies to start a presentation using inexpensive hydrogen made from Australian brown coal in Japan. Kawasaki Heavy Industries has also built liquefied hydrogen carrier for transportation to Australia which is a world’s first. The hydrogen carrier is known as ‘The Suiso Frontier’. Kawasaki aims to produce hydrogen-powered engines for motorcycles, ships, land/sea aircraft etc. The brand plans to achieve this using the world’s first gas-turbine power generator.

Team Green has already started developing the hydrogen engine technology alongside Yamaha for its motorcycles. The brand also plans to use the same technology for its four-wheeled buggies. The brand also introduced new equipment to strengthen its internal development system. Japanese brands Honda and Suzuki also plan to follow Kawasaki and yamaha in exploring carbon neutrality possibilities.

Kawasaki Electric-Hybrid Vehicle Development

In addition to the hydrogen powered vehicle, Kawasaki is also developing a new hybrid electric motorcycle for the mass market. The new hybrid electric bike will come with smart features that will be able to use GPS technology and run the bike on completely electric power in designated areas such as city centres. The motorcycle will also be able to automatically switch to petrol power on the highway where the engine could return maximum efficiency. The powertrain will also be able to use electric and petrol power to minimise engine load and provides bursts of energy.
