Harley-Davidson Recalls 2689 Units of Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 S in the USA

Harley-Davidson has recalled certain units of the 2021 Pan America 1250 and 1250S motorcycles in the North American market. This includes 2647 units of the Pan America 1250S and 42 units of the Pan America 1250. The total number of the Pan America motorcycle’s recalled are 2689 units in the American market. Harley-Davidson has not announced if it will recall the motorcycle model in India. It is also important to note that no crash, injury, death or damage has been reported pertaining to this recall.

What Is The Recall For?

The 2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America motorcycles under the recall may have lose threaded insert retention. The problem could be at one or more of the fastening locations. The condition may likely to develop when the rider applying an upward load on the hand-held portion of the seat base. When the rider is deploying the centre stand of the motorcycle the said parts may be less capable of resisting an upward load in the threaded insert locations. The seat component under the recall is the “Struct Tailsect Sub-compnt, Hand Hold”. The component has a part number 47200713, seat base manufactured by Cascade Engineering, Inc.

The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also revealed that only 1% of the recalled vehicles may have the defect. The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250S manufactured between 8 March 2021 and 13 October 2021 may have the defect. The company has rectified the issue on vehicles produced after 13 October 2021 with an updated Seat Base (similar part number 47200713). The updated part number does not have the same defect. The fault may be a manufacturing variation during the production process. 

The Remedy

The company will be replacing the part number 47200713 Seat Base with a new updated part. Harley-Davidson will recall Pan America 1250 and 1250S motorcycle VIN range beginning 1HD1ZES19MB300609 and ending with 1HD1ZES16MB315889 (Not Sequential). Owners under the recall may bring their vehicle to Harley-Davidson dealerships with prior appointments. The recall part number 47200713 may be identified with a manufacturing date stamp (on the bottom of the part).
