BSA Motorcycles Making Comeback in India, Will Launch Premium Bikes

BSA Motorcycles which was established as Birmingham Small Arms company in 1861 in Small Heath, Birmingham is making a comeback to the Indian market. In the past, the company manufactured arms and ammunition in the UK. BSA later started manufacturing bicycles and motorcycles in the UK. The company claimed the title of the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer between the 1950s and the 1970s. But when the Japanese motorcycles entered the global market, sales for BSA Motorcycles declined. The brand later filed for bankruptcy and became defunct. Now, BSA plans to make a return in the global market by launching its products in the international market. The company also released its first teaser on the micro-blogging site Twitter. The teaser leads us to believe that the brand will make its comeback in the Indian market as well, where BSA affficionados are plenty.

BSA Motorcycles Mid-Segment Cruiser

While BSA has not announced its plans nor revealed the motorcycle it will bring to the global market. Speculation is that the brand is working on a modern-classic bike could make its debut in the middle-weight segment. Sources reveal that BSA is likely to bring a new 650cc cruiser motorcycle to the world including India. The company launch the new motorcycle in the UK with a starting price tag of around GBP 5,000 and around the INR 4 lakh – INR 5 lakh mark in India.

BSA Motorcycles Competition and Production

The new mig-segment BSA motorcycle is likely to compete with the Royal Enfield 650 Twins. While BSA Motorcycles is likely to introduce a cruiser motorcycle, which could rival the upcoming Royal Enfiled 650 Cruiser. Royal Enfield enjoys the segment pretty unrivalled at least from the price perspective and BSA could entirely change the game, if the brand is able to price the bike competitively. The BSA Motorcycles mid-segment bike is likely to come with an air/oil-cooled parallel twin motor which may produce around 50 Hp of power. Reports in the past suggest that Mahindra-backed Classic Legends has been developing a new 650cc engine platform which is currently under test. The new platform is likely to be in the advanced stages of testing and development at the Pithampur plant and may hit road testing soon.
